Class Description

African Voices from Ghana and the Congo, Session 1 From writers all over Ghana and the Congo come stories of desperation and endurance, deep loss and sudden joy. Set against backgrounds of rural tradition, urban striving and political upheaval, these unique and vivid tales probe the dilemmas of post-colonial life. Our reading experience will be enriched with discussions of history, art and film. African Voices is also offered on Zoom on Thursdays, 10:30 to noon. This class is offered in conjunction with Bill Taylor's History of Africa Since Independence: Ghana, the Congo, and Nigeria, but either may be taken separately as well. Our course book of short stories will be available for $16.00 in the parking lot of the Lifetime Learning Center from 10:30 to noon on Thursday, March 28, or by mail for $20.00.
