Argentine Cooking and Culture
with Roberto Altschul
Class Description
What do Argentines cook and eat, and why? Beef is an important part of an Argentine’s diet, but limiting ourselves to that is telling only a small part of the story. Argentina, a large country, has a population with very diverse backgrounds. That has generated an incredible diversity of dishes. Have you ever eaten a friar’s ball? Or a nun’s sigh? Or a sacrament? Maybe we don’t want others to know so we keep it all to ourselves! What is Argentine cooking like? Is it like Spanish, Mexican, Peruvian? In this class I will show videos of myself preparing some of these intriguing dishes. I will explain the history behind the dish and perhaps even share some of what I made!
