Class Description

Church and State in Latin America: A focus on Mexico and the Cristero Rebellion We will study and discuss a collection of readings, beginning with the 300 years of colonial rule in Mexico, followed by more detailed exploration of issues and Church-state conflicts surrounding the struggle for independence from Spain (1810-21), the Mexican Revolution (1810-17), and the bloody 1926-29 religious conflict between peasants and federal forces. There will be a collection of readings for students to purchase. The cost will be no more than $25. In Person Wednesdays: 11:30am - 1:00pm Class Limit: 15
