History of Africa, S1

with Bill Taylor

Class Description

This is the third and last in a series of courses on “A History of Africa.” It is not necessary to have taken the first two courses to take this one. The fall and winter courses attempted to provide a history of Africa as a whole. This one will focus primarily on the history since independence of Ghana, the Congo, and Nigeria. The text for the course is Martin Meredith’s The Fate of Africa: A History of the Continent Since Independence. Either the 2005/2006 or the revised 2011 edition will do. This set of courses has been developed in conjunction with Marianne LoGerfo, who is also focusing this quarter on the literature and culture of Ghana and the Congo. It is not necessary to register for both courses. Mondays, 9:15 – 10:30 INSTRUCTOR ZOOM Class Limit: 35
