Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, S1
with Bill Taylor
Class Description
A History of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict, S1 This course will NOT discuss the current conflict in Gaza. Instead, it will provide the historical context for understanding how and why each side justifies its actions in Gaza. The Israelis and Palestinians each have their own historical narrative that accounts for their conviction that their side has a right to its claims to land in the region, while denying the legitimacy of the other’s claims. We’ll look at those narratives, but this course will focus on the ways in which each side has contributed to the continuation of the conflict and the failures of the various opportunities for peace. If you believe one side is in the right and the other at fault, I’d urge you not to take this course. It will only upset you. There is a 214-page course packet that I will sell at cost ($15) in a “trunk sale” on Thursday, September 26 in the LLC parking lot. Please email me at btaylor@oakton.edu if you’d like a copy mailed to you ($20). Tuesday, 9:30 – 10:45 In Person B2 Class Limit: 35
