Masters of American Classical Music
with Chuck Roxin
Beginning in the Mid-19th Century there was an explosion of creativity in composition in the US. Louis Moreau Gottschalk was hailed not only in his home of New Orleans, but in Europe and South America as well. By the 20th century this creative wave was surging everywhere: Wahoo, Nebraska [Howard Hanson], Boston [Walter Piston], Brooklyn [Aaron Copland], and Oklahoma [Roy Harris]. These composers forged a set of sounds that are distinctly ‘American.’ They influenced Europe. Come find out how this happened, and enjoy some beautiful music.
