Class Description

We will read The Vegetarian by Han Kang, the 2024 Nobel Prize Winner in Literature. The Vegetarian was published in 2007. It has won prestigious awards but none more so than the Nobel Prize. Join us as we read and discuss this slim but powerful novel. The New York Times said, “All the trigger warnings on earth cannot prepare a reader for the traumas of this Korean author’s translated debut in the Anglophone world.” That is indeed an understatement. We may also watch relevant interviews, documentaries, and movies from Korea, depending on the class preferences. If we finish this slim novel ahead of schedule we may read other works by Han Kang or other Korean novelists to gain a fuller understanding of Korea. ZOOM Mondays: 11:00am - 12:30pm Class Limit: 15
