Summer Russia Series
with Bill Taylor
Class Description
President Putin has referred to the glories of Russian culture to help explain Russia’s (and his) grievances against the West for its failure to respect Russia and grant its rightful place as a leading world power. Is this pride in Russia’s cultural history justified, or simply a justification for aggression? In this 12-week Zoom/In-Person course, which begins June 21st, we’ll study the history of Russian culture from Muscovy to Putin. We’ll do so by each week watching two half-hour lectures from the Great Courses’ 24-part “Russia: A Cultural History,” followed by discussion. All classes will be available by Zoom. In addition, I will gather with students for an In Person Opportunity for Discussion on Wednesdays in July, 1:30 - 2:30 in the Youth Room. Depending on my schedule, I will try to arrange for people who have to miss a class to watch the videos at a different time. There will be no reading for the course! Zoom, Tuesdays: 9:30am - 11:00am In Person Discussion, Wednesdays in July, 1:30pm - 2:30pm Class Limit: 50
