Class Description

The History of Baseball: From Its Murky Beginnings to Sabermetrics We’ll start with colonial stickball and move our way through the history of baseball. Class topics include baseball’s murky origins, baseball before and after The Babe, black baseball, war-time baseball, baseball’s cathedrals, creating the World Series, and free agency. Join this class to learn about America’s Pastime: firehouse baseball, New York’s Elysian Fields, how the World Series came to be, the first Hall of Fame inductees, and sabermetrics: all it has wrought and if anything can be done to “save” baseball. There will be optional readings and images. Zoom Thursdays: 1:00pm - 2:30pm Class Limit: 16
