Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
with Susan VanZanten
Class Description
Russian novelist Leo Tolstoy is perhaps best known for Anna Karenina (1878), the classic novel depicting a tragic love affair between an aristocratic woman and a military officer that defies 19th-century Russian social norms. Exploring themes of passion, marriage, jealousy, and hypocrisy, the novel also features a parallel story about the search for meaning in life. Come join a small group for intense reading (about 100 pages a week) and lively conversation of one of the greatest works of literature ever written. You can use any edition of the novel, but if you’d like to be on the same page as me, order a Penguin classic. Lots of used copies are available online. Mondays, 12:30 - 2:00 In Person: 1J Class Limit: 15
