Office Assistant

Who We Are: Lifetime Learning Center (LLC) has been in operation since 1976 serving older adults with educational opportunities, personal growth, laughter, happiness, socialization, tea, coffee, cookies and “no exams.” Over 40 retired teachers and community experts volunteer their time to provide a remarkable array of classes focused on arts, music, history, literature, writing, philosophy, film, science and much more. LLC also offers talks and other events available to the public and free of charge.
Job Description: The Office Assistant reports to the Operations Manager to help with the daily administrative operations of Lifetime Learning Center, including customer service, office assistance, classroom assistance (including setting up tables, chairs and AV equipment), and maintaining the coffee/lounge area.
Hours of work: Classes are held for three eight - week terms and one four-week term each year. Hours are variable ranging from 24 hours for the first week and up to 10 - 15 hours/week the remaining weeks of every term.
Qualifications:
▪ Office experience required, including ability using computers and email
▪ Desired experience with proofreading and editing using WIX, Constant Contact, Word, Excel, and Google Docs
▪ Experience working with older populations desired but not required
▪ Must be able to lift over 25 lbs and move furniture
▪ Knowledge of operation of AV equipment useful.
Compensation: $24-26 per hour, depending on experience; does not include benefits
Specific Responsibilities:
▪ Engage with students and address needs
▪ Monitor, update and correct student registrations
▪ Record student fees
▪ Reconcile registration checks
▪ Monitor staff email group, answer questions and resolve issues
▪ Answer office phone and monitor voicemail, follow up as needed
▪ Copy and distribute class materials
▪ Set up classroom table and chairs, and support instructor AV needs
▪ Open Zoom classes
▪ Proof-read and edit the following office materials and communications: class brochure and class descriptions, website changes, registration website and materials, course schedule, community-wide emails
▪ Participate in a program committee as staff support
▪ Participate in planning and implementing special school events (socials; quarterly orientations, celebrations) as needed.

A lifetime student and pursuer of all things easeful, Catriona has worked for almost a decade as a massage therapist and holds a Master of Public Health. In her free time she loves to do puzzles, adventure with her animals Coconut and Una, and volunteers for Elder Friends in her neighborhood of South Seattle. She is convinced that education is one of the keys to personal freedom and strength, and is delighted to be a part of the Lifetime Learning Center community.
