About the Event
Paintings and sculptures may strike us as beautiful, interesting, or curious, but they
offer more to us when we can find in them deep sources of human meaning. This slide lecture
will explore three different kinds of meaning in art: (1) narrative meaning, wherein the art
communicates by connecting to story; (2) morphic meaning, wherein the art communicates
through suggestive forms rather than representations; and (3) contextual meaning, wherein
