About the Event

On November 30th, 1999, Seattle was ground zero for anti-international trade protests.

The World Trade Organization, successor to the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade

[founded in 1947], intended to modernize international protocols that regulated trade. The

protests against the WTO inspired the Brexit movement in the UK. It was also based on some

interesting misunderstandings about how trade is actually conducted.
