Class Description
Welcome to the land of superlatives! This period features China's fabulous Great Wall and Forbidden City, its best novels and loveliest gardens, along with the world's biggest ships, largest economy, and most populous cities. It ends with the deadliest of its wars and the worst of Western imperialism, followed as always by the promise of a fresh start. We'll ground our exploration of the fascinating dynasties of the Ming and Qing with history, literature, art, photography and film. Course books will be available at the Lifetime Learning Center for $18.00 from 10:30 to noon on Friday, January 2. This course is also offered on zoom on Thursdays, 10:30 to noon. It partners with Bill Taylor's History of China, but stands on its own as well. Class fees will be refunded 100% if an instructor cancels class or a student drops before the end of the first week of classes. Registration fees are non-refundable
