Mah-Jongg

With Janet Morgan

Class Description

The class will begin with an introduction to Mah-jongg, which is a tile-based game, played by four individuals. The 144 tiles consist of three suits along with winds and dragons. We will discuss the history and other interesting facts about Mah-jongg. Various forms of Mah-jongg exist. The class will cover three of the most frequently played in the U.S., which are Chinese, Taiwanese, and American. During each session, there will be time to participate and play a game. I learned to play Mah-jongg in the mid-1990s and have been teaching it informally. Studies have shown positive outcomes from participating in this game. These outcomes include cognitive, social, and emotional benefits. To play American Mah-Jongg each student will need to have a 2026 American Mah-Jongg card, which can be found on Amazon or a participating game store.
